About Our Business
SUMMARY:
ARONORA is a start-up biotechnology company established for the
commercialization of proprietary anticoagulant (“blood thinning”)
products that do not cause bleeding, thus they can be safely used in
hard-to-treat blood clot diseases, such as ischemic stroke, heart attack,
or those associated with severe infections.
PROBLEM AND IMPACT:
Thrombosis (pathological “bad clots”, inside blood vessels) is a
frequently occurring condition that causes deadly human ailments.
Almost 2 out of 3 people die of blood clots that plug up important vessels
(arteries and veins) and cause heart attack, stroke, deep vein
thrombosis and lung embolism, diffuse coagulation of blood in severe
sepsis, and other severe acute diseases. Existing anti-thrombotic drugs
that are used against “bad clots” fail because highly effective doses also
block hemostasis, the physiological “good clots” that form outside of
blood vessels and are needed to stop bleeding after injuries. Safer
treatments that could stop “bad clots” without causing bleeding would
save millions of lives every year.
PRODUCTS AND ADVANTAGES:
WE-THROMBIN is a bioengineered anti-coagulant protein C activator
enzyme. AXIMAB refers to anticoagulant antibodies that inhibits a blood
coagulation protein, factor XI (FXI). Both products are injectable, short-
term use recombinant biomolecules that act only inside blood vessels,
therefore without bleeding side effects. WE-THROMBIN is initially
intended for ischemic stroke and heart attack. AXIMAB is initially intended
for sepsis and severe infections. Aronora’s advanced product
candidates have demonstrated extraordinary safety versus traditional
anti-thrombotic drugs in large primates.
